NC Dinos @ Samsung Lions – Under (8.5) – One would think that ESPN will be hoping that their first KBO broadcast is high scoring and entertaining but I think this game is going to go under 8.5 based on the pitching matchup. Jung Hyun Baek will be pitching for the Lions and he had success against the Dinos down the stretch last season. He pitched 7 or more innings while allowing 2 or less earned runs in each of his final 3 starts against the Dinos. One of those was a complete game shutout on Jun 6. Drew Rucinski will pitch for the Dinos and he was good against the Lions last season. He had 4 starts against the Lions and held them to 8 earned runs over 27 innings for an earned run average of 2.67. The Dinos averaged 4.6 runs per game last season and the Lions averaged 4.3 runs per game last season but they were only able to score 4 runs in 1 of the head to head matchups against these starting pitchers last season. Give me the under. Set your alarms.
NC Dinos 4 Samsung Lions 0 – Win. Good win for the first Korean Baseball game broadcasted live on ESPN. We expected a pitcher’s duel and that’s exactly what we got. Drew Rucinski pitched 6 scoreless innings and only allowed 3 hits. Jung Hyun Baek gave up 4 runs over 6 innings but the bullpen came in and finished strong. Over under was 8.5 and this one went way under.
