UFC Fight Night Woodley vs Burns was an entertaining night. Some fights were better than others but overall it was a good card for UFC fans It was even better for sports bettors who were on the right side of each fight. KofSports provides UFC predictions and picks. We swept our premium predictions and picks last night with a perfect 5-0 record. Let’s take a look back at last night’s UFC Results Woodley vs Burns.
UFC Predictions & Picks
Klidson Abreu 15-4 (-105) vs Jamahal Hill 7-0 (-125) – Fighters from Brazil always have that extra level of toughness. However, Jamahal Hill just has that hood in him. Hill gets in the ring and he gets to work right away. He lands 7.92 significant strikes per minute in comparison to Abreu’s 2.02. Klidson Abreu has lost 2 of his last 3 fights. Hill is a perfect 7-0. Taking all this into account and then adding the fact that Hill has a 4 inch height advantage and 5 inch reach advantage, this one might be the best value of the night. Get on Jamahal Hill to win at (-125) on the moneyline.
Spike Carlyle 9-1 (+105) vs Billy Quarantillo 13-2 (-135) – These guys both land significant strikes at a high rate with Quarantillo landing 10.77 per minute and Carlyle landing 14.12 per minute. Quarantillo is more effective with his accuracy of significant strikes at 81% in comparison to Carlyle’s 65%. Quarantillo has the height advantage by 2 inches and that’s definitely factoring into the line here. This one feels like the loser will have his eyes rolled back in his head. Just under 50% of their combined wins have come by knockout so there’s a good chance we see one in this fight. I’ll take the height advantage in a fight that is going to be a slugfest. Billy Quarantillo to win (-135).
Augusto Sakai 14-1-1 (-115) vs Blagoy Ivanov 18-3 (-115) – I’m shocked that this one is a toss up on the moneyline. Augusto Sakai is the clear favorite here. He comes in with a major height advantage 6’4 over 5’11. He also has a 4 inch reach advantage. Aside from Francis Ngannou, Augusto Sakai is the hottest heavyweight in the UFC. Sakai is 14-1-1 with 11 knockouts. He is riding a 5 fight win streak with 4 of the last 5 wins coming via knockout. Blagoy Ivanov has been fighting since 2007. He started his career 16-1-1 but he is just 2-2 over the last two years. Ivanov is 33 years old and Sakai is 29. Let’s roll with the younger fighter who has been hotter. Augusto Sakai to win (-115)
Gilbert Burns 18-3 (+140) vs Tyron Woodley 19-4-1 (-170) – Tyron Woodley is coming off of a year off after suffering from depression. He lost his last fight against Kamaru Usman (16-1) back on March 2, 2019. Before that, Woodley was on a 6-0-1 streak and hadn’t lost a fight since 2014. Burns comes in on a 5 fight win streak and he has been fighting a lot more than Woodley recently. 4 of Burns’ 5 recent wins have come in the last 13 months and Woodley hasn’t fought in that time frame. Woodley is the favorite here because he is a better striker and he has the power to knock anyone out.
However, Burns has stated that Kamaru Usman has been, “helping him out a lot” in his training for this fight. The fact that Burns has been training and gaining insight on Woodley from the guy who beat Woodley in his most recent fight is definitely eye opening. I also think it’s eye opening that Woodley is 38 and has taken a year off while Burns is just 33 and has 4 of his last 5 wins coming within the last 13 months. The last two major UFC events have ended with the underdog taking the Main Event and I think that trend continues tonight. Gilbert Burns to win (+140)
UFC Parlays:Daniel Rodriguez ML / Roosevelt Roberts ML (-148) – Taking the two biggest moneylines for the guy fights tonight gets us to (-148) odds which isn’t bad value for the matchups that we are betting on. Let’s start with Daniel Rogriguez. He comes into tonight’s fight 11-1 and he has an extra 15 pounds on Gabe Green. We described this one in our preview piece as D Rod being the big brother who is always just bigger and stronger. This fight should be pretty one sided against Gabe Green.
Then we have Roosevelt Roberts who is clearly taking this fight personal against Brok Weaver who he called a dog abuser on Twitter last night. Roberts comes in 9-1 compared to Weaver’s 15-4 and Roberts also has a 2 inch height advantage. I think this fight will be closer than the oddamakers think but I do believe that Roberts will prevail.
UFC Results Woodley Burns
Jamahal Hill Knocks Out Klidson Abreu
Jamahal Hill came in 7-0 and we got on the moneyline early in the day before it trickled down to -150 right at fight time. As stated in our prediction, Hill doesn’t waste any time getting to work and he is very aggressive with his career significant strikes landed per minute at 7.92. Hill wasted no time getting to work in this one and it only took 1:51 for him to knock out Klidson Abreau. Hill’s height and reach advantage was a major factor in this fight.
Billy Quarantillo by Decision
Spike Carlyle came out full steam ahead and went 0-100 real quick when this fight started. He definitely won the first round and the second round was close as well. However, he was gassed by the third round and Billy Quarantillo is known for his cardio. This one was more of a wrestling match than a slugfest like we expected but we did expect Billy Q to come away with the victory. This one went to decision and it was close but Billy Q got the 29-28 vote.
Augusto Sakai by Decision
Two big men went at it in this one but it felt like Augusto Sakai was letting Blagoy Ivanov hang around in this one. It felt like there were multiple opportunities for Sakai to finish Ivanov and he just didn’t. Sakai had more total strikes with 89 compared to Ivanov’s 71 and in the end, the judges gave this fight to Sakai. It’s also worth noting that there was a fence grab by Sakai to prevent a take down but the judges did not deduct a point. The announcers and Ivanov backers on social media were upset with this. We were on Sakai so we were perfectly fine with it!
Daniel Rodriguez & Roosevelt Roberts To Win
This one was our, “safe parlay.” A lot of bettors out there will tell you that no parlay is safe but this one was pretty safe right along. We has a couple of big moneyline favorites with Daniel Rodriguez and Roosevelt Roberts. They were both in control of their fights right from the start through the finish. D Rod went to decision against Gabe Green but had 175 total strikes to Green’s 127. Easy winner. Then Roosevelt Roberts hit Brok Weaver with the reversed naked choke hold to win by submission 3:26 into the second round. This parlay was safe and this parlay was easy.
Gilbert Burns by Unanimous Decision
Most of the public money was all on Tyron Woodley in this one. We took Gilbert Burns early in the day when the moneyline was at (+140) but it was bet up to (+160) by fight time. A lot of people get sucked into betting the favorite without knowing much background on the fight. We were suspect of Woodley in this one after his last fight just going terrible for him. We also were skeptical of a 38 year old coming back after 15 months off and dealing with depression.
Gilbert Burns was hungry for this win to take his career to the next level. He was training with Kamaru Usman who is the fighter who beat Woodley in his previous fight. Burns came out as the better fighter right from the start and he maintained that through the finish. Even when this fight was already decided, Burns kept attacking Woodley. Very impressive win for Gilbert Burns in this main event.
