Here we go, it’s that time of year where Peter King’s NFL Power Rankings come out. He has the Las Vegas Raiders ranked as the 8th best team in the NFL for the 2020 season. This has to be a sick joke or a tactic to get clicks right? Or is he fucking serious? Here’s what King has to say about the Raiders who went 7-9 last season.
We get it, there’s a lot of hype around the Raiders moving from Oakland to Las Vegas. Sure, the Raiders added a great receiver in the 2020 NFL Draft with Henry Ruggs III. The Raiders drafted the first wide receiver in the draft but didn’t end up with the best receiver in the draft. Go figure. I’m not knocking Ruggs but Jerry Juedy is simply the better receiver. King is fantasizing over Ruggs paired up with Tyrell Williams, Hunter Renfrow, Darren Wallen, and Jason Witten. This needs to stop. Let’s take a look at the bettings odds to prove that this is indeed absolutely crazy.
Las Vegas Raiders Odds to Win the Super Bowl
At the time that King wrote this article putting the Raiders as the 8th ranked team in his NFL power rankings for 2020, the Raiders were listed at 60 to 1 odds to win the Super Bowl. That puts them as the 22nd best team as far as the oddsmakers and sportsbooks are considered. History shows that the oddsmakers know what they are talking about and these odds prove how far off this prediction is by King. The Los Angeles Chargers have better odds to win the Super Bowl than the Raiders. I’m not just saying that, you can look up the odds on any reputable sportsbook. The Denver Broncos have the same odds to win the Super Bowl as the Raiders at 60 to 1. Get out of your own division before you talk about taking strides to the top of the league.
AFC West Preview 2020
At least he touches on the fact that the rest of the teams in the AFC West got better so that might stop the Raiders from taking a big step forward this year. But going from 7-9 to the 8th best team in the league would be a big jump, right? The Chiefs will beat the Raiders twice. The Broncos have better odds to win the division and the Chargers have the same odds as the Raiders to win the division. The Chiefs are going to win this division. I’m just using the odds to put the Raiders on about the same level as the Broncos and Chargers who King has ranked #20 & #23 in his NFL power rankings.
How does Peter King have the Raiders at #8 in his NFL Power Rankings?
He can’t really believe that the Las Vegas Raiders will be the 8th best team in the NFL this season. I know they talked about going out and signing Tom Brady but that didn’t happen. They still have Derek Carr who has a career record of 39-55. Maybe the Raiders front office is paying him to write this shit to get their fans excited.
Looking at the Raiders schedule, I wouldn’t be shocked if they started the season 0-6. Open up on the east coast against the Carolina Panthers, host the New Orleans Saints in prime time, take a trip back to the east Coast to play Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots, host the Buffalo Bills, go play the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas Chiefs, host the Tampa Bay Bucs with Tom Brady and all of his weapons. The Las Vegas Raiders could start the season 0-6 with that stretch of games against good teams and multiple trips across the country. No team that starts 0-6 or 1-5 or 2-4 is the 8th best team in the NFL. Period. It’s more likely that the Las Vegas Raiders start 0-6 than be the 8th best team in the NFL this season.
Let me be clear, I don’t have a problem with the Raiders. I hope it works out for them in Vegas. I will probably bet on them multiple times at some point this season. But to put them as the 8th ranked team in the pre season power rankings is an absolute fucking joke. Peter, hit me up and if you want to put some money on the Raiders this season.
