UFC Fight Night Eye vs Calvillo will take place this Saturday with 11 fights in Las Vegas. Let’s take a look through each matchup to see which fighters have the advantage and how some of the fights might play out.
Anthony Ivy 8-2 vs Christian Auguilara 13-6
Anthony Ivy comes in at 6’2 which is a 5 inch height advantage to Christian Aguilera’s 5’9. Ivy is riding a 5 fight winning streak into this fight with his last 3 wins coming via knockout. Christian Aguilera has won 3 of his last 5 and one of those losses came via knockout and the other via decision. Ivy has the size advantage and the better record in this one.
Jordan Griffin 18-7 vs Darrick Minner 24-11
Jordan Griffin has a 3 inch height advantage and a 4 inch reach advantage over Darrick Minner. Both of these fighters will be looking for a win here. Jordan Griffin has lost 2 of his last 3 fights and Darrick Minor is coming off of a loss in his last fight. 8 of the last 10 combined fights for these two fighters has been decided in the first or second round.
Ryan Benoit 10-6 vs Tyson Nam 18-11-1
Ryan Benoit comes in on a bit of a skid losing 3 of his last 5 fights with the most recent loss coming last December. Tyson Nam has also lost 3 out of his last 5 but one of those losses came in a title fight. Each fighter has won 50% or more than his fights by knockout although 8 of the last 10 combined fights were settled by decision or submission. These guys still have 17 combined knockouts which is good for a couple of flyweights.
Julia Avila 7-1 vs Gina Mazany 6-3
Julia Avila comes in to this one with the better record at 7-1 compared to Gina Mazany’s 6-3. Avilia likes to keep her fights upright and only 1 of her 7 wins have come by submission. I think Mazany will try to go for take downs in this fight and she has a 77% take down accuracy rate so she should be able to get Avila on the ground. Anything can happen on the ground when it goes against what a fighter is looking to do. First look might have you thinking to take Avila but I think this one will be a toss up.
Charles Rosa 12-4 vs Kevin Aguilar 17-3
This one should be the best fight during the prelims on Saturday when 12-4 Charles Rosa takes on 17-3 Kevin Aguilar. Aguilar has two straight losses but he started his career 17-1 before that. 10 of Aguilar’s 17 wins have come via knockout. Rosa has lost 2 of his last 3 fights. Rosa wants to get on the ground and get after it. 8 of his 12 wins have come via submission and he has just 1 knockout. Rosa has the 2 inch height advantage but I think it’s tough to go against Aguilar in this one.
Mariya Agapova 8-1 vs Hannah Cifers 10-5
I was a little shocked when I saw Hannah Cifers name on the card for Saturday since she just lost a fight two weeks ago from Saturday. I guess she has plenty of energy left since that loss only lasted 2 minutes and 36 seconds. This is the same Cifers who lost the fight before that by taking 26 unanswered shots to the head. She has a tall task (literally) ahead of her in this one. Mariya Agapova comes in 8-1 and she stands 7 inches taller than Cifers. Agapova is a balanced fighter and she has 3 knockout and 3 submission wins out of her 8 career wins. Her one loss came via decision.
Jordan Espinosa 14-7 vs Mark De La Rosa 11-4
Both fighters come in standing at 5’6 in this Bantamweight matchup. Jordan Espinosa is the more aggressive fighter and he lands 4.25 significant strikes per minute compared to De La Rosa’s 3.28. Espinosa comes in on a 2 fight losing streak and De La Rosa comes in on a 3 fight losing streak. Both of these fighters’ fighting style is Brazilian jiu-jitsu and you can expect this one to have a lot of grappling. De La Rosa has only been knocked out once and Espinosa hasn’t been knocked out.
Andre Fili 20-7 vs Charles Jourdain 10-2
Andre Fili comes into this one as a big favorite and for good reason. He has a 5 inch reach advantage to go with his 2 inch height advantage. This fight should be very entertaining to watch with a lot of action. Fili and Jourdain both land more than 4 significant strikes per minute. Both fighters have combined for 16 knock outs and I’m hoping we get to see one in this fight.
Merab Dvalishvili 10-4 vs Ray Borg 13-5
Merab Dvalishvili comes in to this one with a 2 inch height advantage and a 5 inch reach advantage. He is also riding a 3 fight winning streak while Borg has lost 3 of his last 5. Dvalishvili lands more than double the significant strikes per minute that Borg does so that gives him another advantage to go with his size in this one. There will be plenty of action on the ground in this fight as well with Dvalishvili averaging 7.8 takedowns per fight and Borg averaging 3.89 take downs per fight.
Karl Roberson 9-2 vs Marvin Vettori 14-4-1
Middleweight battle between these two guys should give us another entertaining fight to watch. Karl Roberson has won 3 of his last 5 fights with those wins coming via submission and decision. Roberson only has 2 knockout wins out of his 9 career wins. He goes by the nickname of Baby K. Marvin Vettori has won 3 of his last 5 fights as well. Out of the 23 combined wins for these two fighters, they both only have 2 knockouts. 8 of their last 10 combined fights have gone the distance so over 2.5 rounds seems like a solid bet in this one. I’m sure it will have some juice on it but it’s still an 80% trend.
UFC Fight Night Eye vs Calvillo
Jessica Eye 15-7 vs Cynthia Calvillo 8-1-1
UFC Fight Night Eye vs Calvillo. The Main Even of the night and for the second week in a row, the Main Event features two female fighters. The UFC betting odds for this fight are split right down the middle for this fight and both fighters are listed at (-110) on the moneyline as of the time that this article is being written. Both fighters land around 4 significant strikes per minute so we should get some good action in this one. Jessica Eye has a 2 inch height advantage. This is another fight that should go the distance, 8 of the last 10 combined fights have gone to the judges. I’d be comfortable putting my money on the over for the round prop.
