VIP started the season 2-0 and Daily Pick followers started the season 3-0. We went in to the first full slate of the MLB season with 4 Daily pick plays and 3 VIP plays. Other than the Phillies who have instantly been added to the shit list, it was another great night for us. Daily Pick plays went 3-1 and VIP plays went 2-1 for the second straight profitable night to start the season. Let’s take a look back at the picks and review the results.
Mets ML (-150)
The Mets will kick off the season sending back to back CY Young award winner Jacob deGrom to the mound, and what a pitcher he has been for them. deGrom has held this Braves starting lineup to a .233 average over 288 at bats. On the flip side, rising star Mike Soroka will go for the Braves, but he has been touched up to the tune of a .284 average. The thing we really like here is the fact that the hits against Soroka have been spread out amongst the batters, and Cespedes and Alonso are a combined 7/12 off of him. We look for the Mets to take this first game on ESPN today.
Final Score Mets 1 Braves 0
This one turned out to be the pitcher’s duel that we expected it to be. One of the Mets hitters that we called out in the pick was the difference in the game. Yoenis Cespedes hit an absolute missile in the bottom of the 7th innings. DeGrom got the early hook but the Mets bullpen was able to come in and hold the Braves to no runs in the season opener. Great win for the Mets to get their season started.
Phillies (Nola) (-1.5)
The Phillies will take on Sandy Alcantara who they have had success against in the past. Don’t mistake this guy for Raul Alcantara who we have been betting on in the KBO league. The Phillies lineup comes in with a .317 avg in 63 at bats against him. The final results weren’t on Nola’s side last year but he was good in his starts against the Marlins pitching 6 or more innings and allowing 3 or less runs in each start. The Marlins are projected to be the 3rd worst team in the league this season and I like the Phillies to start their season with a win here.
Final Score Marlins 5 Phillies 2
It all came back to me when the Phillies started to shit the bed in this game. It happened plenty of times last season where they look good going into the matchup and then they just don’t produce. I’m actually embarrassed that I felt for the Philly hype in this one. One of the highest payrolls in the league and the skill just doesn’t show. That $330 million man was swinging at pitches in the right handers batters box. Not a good look. Philly is on our shit list.
Cardinals (Flaherty) ML / Astros (Verlander) ML (+113)
Jack Flaherty will pitch for the Cardinals tonight and if you don’t know this guy, you need to get to know him. He’s held this Pirates lineup to a .206 avg in 63 at bats. The Pirates are also projected to be one of the worst teams in the league this season. The Cards lineup is hitting just under .300 against Joe Musgrove and went 4-0 against him last year. The cherry on top was the 17-4 win where they scored 8 earned runs in 3 innings against him on May 9 last season. The Cards won all 4 games by 2 runs or more against Musgrove last season. The Cards are going to be a profitable team this season and it starts tonight.
Then we have the Astros who will be playing the hate campaign this season after their cheating scandal but they are still one of the best teams in the league and they have a great matchup tonight. Justin Verlander will take the mound tonight and he has held this Mariners lineup to a .225 avg in 102 at bats. The Astros will face Marco Gonzales who they come in with a .336 avg in 110 at bats against. The Astros went 4-0 against him last season. I like the Astros to get the win tonight even though the majority of people want to cheer against them for cheating.
Final Score Cardinals 5 Pirates 4 – Astros 8 Mariners 2
We were relying on Jack Flaherty for the Cardinals in the matchup he had tonight and he delivered. He only allowed 2 runs over 7 innings and had 6 strikeouts. The Cards then got a 2 run home run from Paul DeJong in the 8th inning to go up 5-2. It seemed like an easy winner at that point but former KBO pitcher Kwang-hyun Kim came in and made things interesting by giving up 2 quick runs. He was able to close it down for us and get the win.
The Astros got down early, twice. Justin Verlander was out there serving up lunch to the Mariners and gave up 2 solo shots in the first 4 innings. The Astros lineup that we all know showed up in the 5th inning and scored 5 runs. They were in control from that point forward and got the win for us.
Solid parlay win at (+113) odds!
Dodgers (Stripling) (-1.5)
We saw how good the Dodgers lineup is. Even after a slow start, they still put up 8 runs. They also left 11 guys on base and were only 4-12 with runners in scoring position. Stripling worked in relief against the Giants last season and has held them to a .243 avg in 37 at bats. The Dodgers lineup will face Jeff Samardzija and the key players in the lineup have all had success against him. Muncy, Bellinger, and Pederson all have taken him deep. The Giants have Pablo fucking Sandoval in their 3 hole and it’s 2020. They are clearly rebuilding and when a team is rebuilding, you bet against them to build your bank account up. Go Dodgers!
Final Score Dodgers 9 Giants 1
We went into this one confident knowing that the Dodgers blew the Giants out on Thursday night even though they were only 4-12 with runners in scoring position. They weren’t much better with runners in scoring position tonight but they had a similar blowout win for us. The Giants are just simply going to have themselves a tough year. Max Muncy showed up to party on a Friday night and went deep twice. It’s scary to think how good this offense is going to be when they don’t leave these kinds of opportunities on the table. We also got a great start out of Dodgers starter Ross Stripling. 7 innings of 1 run ball. 2-0 in Dodger bets on the season!
