We went into Wednesday 1-5 on the week and it was feeling like a bit of a cold streak. We had ourselves a much needed day yesterday to get back on track for this week! Let’s take a look back at the sports picks review 8-12 and review the results.
VIP Pick Review
White Sox (Cease) (-127) – The White Sox beat up on the Tigers 8-4 last night. They will face Matthew Boyd this afternoon who has a 9.20 ERA this season. He’s allowed 4 or more runs in all 3 of his starts and coming off of a rough one where he allowed 7 runs in 4.2 innings, to the Pirates!! Boyd is tied for the most runs allowed in the American League this season. The Sox have a .289 avg against Boyd in 152 career at bats. Dylan Cease will pitch for the Sox and he’s only allowed 3 runs in his last 11 innings pitched against the Tigers. Cease went 3-0 against the Tigers last season. He got touched up in his first start but he’s had 2 strong outings since then. Go Sox!
Result – Win – White Sox 7 Tigers 5 – The White Sox started this one with two bangs hitting back to back homeruns to start the game. An error in the 4th inning led to the Tigers taking a quick 5-3 lead. Then Luis Robert hit a bases clearing double in the 5th followed by another RBI double from Nomar Mazara for the Sox to take a 7-5 lead that they wouldn’t give up.
Parlay – Yankees ML Astros ML (+131)
The Yanks will have Tanaka on the mound tonight and he’s been good so far this season. He’s coming off of a start where he only allowed 1 hit over 5 innings. The Braves have left Ronald Acuna Jr. out of the lineup for the second straight night. The Yankees will be without Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton but they will face Braves starter Huascar Ynoa who has allowed more runs than innings pitched in his young career. He’s allowed 7 runs in 5.1 innings at the big league level. I think the Yankees will get to this young pitcher and get Tanaka the run support he needs for the win tonight.
Zack Greinke will pitch for the Astros and he has a lot of history against this Giants lineup. He has held them to a .217 avg in 207 at bats. That’s a good sign for Greinke who is still searching for his first win of the season. He hasn’t been bad but he hasn’t got much run support. The Astros will face Trevor Cahill who 4 guys in their lineup have taken deep before. Cahill had a 5.14 ERA in 7 appearances against the Astros last season.
Result – Win – Yankees 6 Braves 3 – Astros 5 Giants 1 – The Yankees had Tanaka on the mound and he put together another solid start. He only went 4 innings but he only allowed 2 runs. The Yankees were missing their two big bats but that didn’t hold them back from piling up 6 runs in 5 innings. The Astros got down 1-0 in the top of the first inning but then tied it up in the 5th. They then exploded for 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to jump out to a 5-1 lead thanks to a 3 run bomb by Maldonado.
Twins (Maeda) (-133) – The Twins have cooled off since their hot start and they have lost 5 of their last 6 after winning 10 of their first 12. Kenta Maeda will pitch for the Twins tonight and he is 2-0 with a 2.65 ERA on the season. He has pitched 5 or more innings and allowed 3 runs or less in all three starts. We should get a quality start from him tonight. Yelich is 4-9 and Braun is 4-10 against him but no one else in the Brewers lineup has seen him more than 2 times. Eric Lauer will pitch for the Brewers and he just gave up 6 runs in 3 innings last Friday. He likely won’t last long tonight since he has only pitched 5.2 total innings in 2 appearances this season. I expect the Twins to get to him and Maeda should be good enough.
Result – Win – Twins 12 Brewers 2 – What’s Eric Lauer’s MLB The Show rating? It’ll be dropping after last night. He allowed 7 runs in 3.2 innings against this powerful Twins lineup. That’s now 13 runs allowed in Lauer’s last 6.2 innings pitched. This one was over in the 2nd inning and was one of those winners that you just coast to. Kenta Maeda pitched great for the Twins and only allowed 2 runs over 6.2 innings.
Flyers (-150) – The Flyers are looking prime going into the playoffs after going 3-0 in their tune up against Tampa, Washington, and Boston. The Flyers won all 3 of those games by 2 goals or more against the top teams in the East. Philly won the season series 2-1 and had a 3rd string goalie playing in that 1 loss against the Habs. The Canadiens looked good in their series win against the Penguins but the Flyers will present more of a challenge. I like the Flyers to stay hot and take Game 1.
Results – Win – Flyers 2 Canadiens 1 – The Flyers got a 1st period goal and finished the first period with double the shots on goal than the Canadiens. The Canadiens tied it up in the 2nd period but the Flyers answered 18 seconds later to take the 2-1 lead. This game was pretty balanced but the Flyers were able to close it out and get the win for us.
