2-0 Monday to start the week with the Lightning closing it out and the easy NFL teaser. Our NFL record improves to 18-5! The MLB Playoffs start today and the regular season was weird with covid cancelations, lots of double headers, and the fact that half of the teams in the league get into the playoffs this year. It’ll be nice to bet on some meaningful baseball again.
White Sox (Giolito) (-122) – What a season for the White Sox who had two separate stretches where they won 10 of 11 games. Pretty impressive for a shortened season. They ranked #5 in runs scored per game at 5.10. Lucas Giolito will pitch for the Sox. He ranks 4th in the league for strikeouts and also threw a no hitter this season. The Sox will face Jesus Luzardo and he has allowed 3 or more runs in 4 out of his last 6 starts. Sure the A’s have a better record than the Sox but I bet you didn’t know that the A’s only had 2 wins against a team who finished the season with a winning record this season. 1 vs the Dodgers and 1 vs the Padres. They beat up on bad teams the rest of the season. The Sox should get Giolito the run support he needs to grab Game 1 of this series.
Result – Win – White Sox 4 A’s 1
Yankees (Cole) (-105) – The Yankees will have Gerrit Cole on the mound and this is why they paid him the big bucks, playoff baseball. Cole is 7-3 on the season and he has 3 straight starts pitching 7+ innings and allowing 1 or less earned run. Cole has held this Indians lineup to a .100 avg in 60 at bats. The Yankees will face Cy Young favorite Shane Bieber who led the league in wins, strikeouts, and ERA. However, the last time he faced this Yankees lineup, he gave up 5 runs in 1.2 innings. Bieber is also just 25 years old and this will be his first postseason start.
Result – Win – Yankees 12 Indians 3
