Tampa Bay Rays @ New York Yankees Game 3 Preview
The Rays evened up this series at 1-1 last night and these two will take the field for Game 3 tonight in San Diego. Charlie Morton will start for the Rays and this will be his first start since 9/25. He pitched against the Yankees twice this season but he only last 2 innings in both of those outings. He’s held this powerful Yankees lineup to a .243 avg in 163 at bats but despite being a ground baller he’s allowed 7 bombs to the Yanks. Masahiro Tanaka will pitch for the Yankees and he has held this Rays lineup to a .238 avg in 147 at bats. Tanaka had 2 good outings against the Rays this season where he only allowed 4 hits in 9 innings. However, he also had a rough game against them where he allowed 6 runs in 4 innings. Tanaka pitched in last week’s Wild Card clincher and he had to deal with some rain but he gave up 6 runs in 4 innings in that game too.
I have a hard time picking a winner between either of these two teams for this game tonight but if you’re looking to bet it, I think the over at 9 makes sense with 12 runs being scored in each of the first two games. Tanaka’s last outing being rough and the fact that Morton has started a live game in two weeks also make this one appealing.
