Today’s NHL free picks 1-14 NHL Opening Night. The NHL season kicked off last night but we have our first full slate tonight with plenty of action on the table. You can check in with KofSports.com for NHL picks throughout the regular season and playoffs. Let’s get right into the NHL free picks for 1/14. Be sure to check in on the starting goalies.
NHL Free Picks 1-14 Carolina Hurricanes @ Detroit Red Wings
Hurricanes (-1.5) – We made a lot of money betting against the Red Wings last season. They went 17-49-5 with 41 of their losses coming by 2 or more goals. The Hurricanes went 3-0 against the Red Wings last season and covered the puck line in each of those wins with final scores of 7-3, 2-0, & 5-2. The Canes should take a step forward this season with another year of development from Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svenchnikov who combined for 62 goals last season. The Red Wings look to be staring another tough season in the face and it kicks off tonight.
Vancouver Canucks @ Edmonton Oilers Free Pick
Canucks / Oilers Over (6) – These two teams just played last night in the season opener and they combined for 8 total goals in that game. The Canucks took leads in the 1st and 2nd period before both teams exploded for 5 total goals in the 3rd period. It’s been a strange offseason and short training camp which may lead to some high scoring games to start the season. Looking back at the NHL games from yesterday, 4 of the 5 games went over or pushed. Both teams got plenty of shots on goal with the Canucks having 35 and the Oilers having 31. Another thing that stands out from last night is that there were 8 total goals scored and both teams combined to go 0-6 on the power play. Look for another high scoring game tonight and over 6 looks good.
Anaheim Ducks @ Vegas Golden Knights Free Pick
Golden Knights (-1.5) – The Vegas Golden Knights fell short of their goal last season when they fell to the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Finals. The Knights come into this season listed as the third favorite to win the cup this season. That’s not a homer listing by the sportsbooks in Vegas. This team has one of the most complete rosters in the league and they should carry over the momentum that they had in the second half of last season. The Ducks figure to continue their rebuild this season and they will face a tough matchup tonight. Looking back at the head to head matchups last season, Vegas went 3-1 against Anaheim with two multi goal wins. Look for the Vegas Golden Knights to start their season strong with another multi goal win against the Anaheim Ducks tonight.
