VIP Picks 1/10/25

Can you say KOOOOOOOFSPORTS!? I know not every one of you read everything I write for every pick every day and that’s fine BUT we need to highlight the Notre Dame analysis as an ALL TIME GREAT pick and analysis because it was literally spot on:

  • Xs and Os wise, I like Notre Dame’s defense ranking 6th in interceptions this season. That could really swing this game. Penn St QB Drew Allar threw 2 interceptions vs Oregon in the Big Ten Championship and one vs Ohio St. I’d almost guarantee at least one interception for him tonight if you can find those odds anywhere but the timing of it and where it happens could really shift the momentum in Notre Dame’s favor.

And here’s the summary for those of you who may have been living under a rock last night:

That’s not luck of the Irish, that’s just using prior results vs similar level defenses and making an educated guess with data that a game changing play would be made. And poof, there you have it. We won’t even talk about the other 2 interceptions in the end zone that the refs waved off because of penalties but realistically those could have swung the game 10 points in Notre Dame’s favor as well.

What a start to our 5 day Playoff Football bender!

One play today. The big game of the day. Let's go.

Team Total

Texas Over (22.5) 🥇

  • This one really starts with the Texas defense and the fact that they have allowed 24 and 31 points to much less skilled offenses than the Ohio St offense they will face tonight. The defense allowing high point totals allows the Texas offense to put up a ton of points themselves, they have scored 38 and 39 in their first two playoff games.

  • Ohio St averaged 36.4 ppg and Texas averaged 34.3 ppg this season so put both offenses on the field tonight and it is likely going to be a good ol' fashioned shootout in Texas.

  • Ohio St’s defense has been very solid in the first two playoff games but I mean both of those games were so lopsided that the opponents folded early. It was 21-0 and 34-0 at points in the first halves of those game. The Texas offense is too explosive to go down that big that early and even if they do, they aren’t going to fold with a chance to go to the Natty.

  • 22.5 is a key number because it's achievable with a variety of scoring options, 3 touchdowns and a field goal or 2 touchdowns and 3 field goals, or just like 5 touchdowns and 2 field goals if it turns into the shootout that I expect!
